About Our Volunteers

Every day, the American Red Cross helps people in emergencies...whether it's half a million disaster victims or one sick child who needs blood. Our vital work is made possible by people like you, who learn how good it can feel to lend a helping hand. Red Cross "everyday heroes" come from all walks of life. They're all ages. Everyone has something special to offer...including you. We depend on volunteers, who constitute 97 percent of our total work force, to carry on our humanitarian work. To Volunteer at the Historic Virginia Chapter... You Must Complete All of the Following 4 Steps:

1. Choose an application:
   1. To become a disaster volunteer
      • Download the Disaster Services Human Resources (DSHR) Enrollment Application.
      • E-mail the completed application to Beverly Gaydas, gaydasb@historicvaredcross.org.
   2. To help with other volunteer services
      • Complete this application and e-mail it to, mail@historicvaredcross.org.
      • Print a copy and mail or fax.
2. Review the following forms, you must provide your Signature, and mail.
   • Code of Conduct Form.
   • Intellectual Property Form.
   • Health Status Record Form
   • Statement of Understanding
3. Everyone must complete the online background check.

4. Begin your training by attending the Online Volunteer Orientation.
